I keep getting undelivered messages back from daemon@mailer for message i have never sent?

It appears that something has infiltrated my mail box and is sending messages to old contacts without me knowing - how can I get rid of this, or do I have to cancel my yahoo and use a different free mail? I do have virus protection. If I have to cancel my yahoo account - how do I do that?
